looking for tips on fishing with my little one

I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to fishing, but I've been thinking it would be nice to take my 5-year-old out for some fishing fun. I've seen those colorful kids' rods in stores and thought they might be a good starting point. Just wondering what kind of setup or bait would be best for a beginner like me and my kid. Any advice would be great since I really want to make it enjoyable for both of us!

Take a small net so your 5-year-old can scoop up minnows, makes it a game. I pack snacks and a folding chair for breaks, keeps my daughter happy when fish are not biting.
